Posed at the dawn of a new century, the Catholic church has two different images of itself and its mission and is projecting both upon the world. Each image has grown out of decades of turbulence and sober assessments of late 20th century life, which has not been kind to institutions with a stake in stability - including the Catholic church. In his lecture, Fox will explore these two images and directions in which either could lead the Catholic church of the future.
Thomas Fox
Tomas C. Fox is a graduate of Stanford University, and has been editor/associate publisher of the National Catholic Reporter, Kansas City, Missouri since 1980. He was a volunteer in the International Voluntary Services in South Vietnam from 1966-1968, and was a stringer for The New York Times, Time Magazine, and the National Catholic Reporter during the war. After leaving Vietnam, he settled in Detroit with his wife, Kim Hoa, a Vietnamese social worker. He worked at the Detroit Free Press as a staff writer from 1973-1978, and also served as an edtior at the Washington Star before his appointment as editor of NCR.
