If God created the world and "saw that it was good", how must Christians respond to the plundering and ruin of the earth? In particular, how can Catholic educators address the ecological and social challenges of our time? What are the resources within and beyond the Christian tradition that will help us to change our way of looking at the world and acting in a more environmentally responsible manner? Dr. Eaton's presentation, and the conversation it seeks to inspire, will explore ecotheology from a Christian ecofeminist perspective. She will also suggest tools that educators can use to engage this critical issue in the classroom.
Heather Eaton, Ph.D.
Dr. Heather Eaton teaches theology at St. Paul's University in Ottawa. Her Ph.D. from the University of St. Michael's College in Toronto integrated studies in ecology, feminism, and theology. She has taught courses in these areas at St. Paul's, St. Michael's, the Toronto School of Theology, and the Faculty of Environmental Studies, York University. Dr. Eaton's main work has been to seek out novel religious responses to the ecological crisis in conversation with feminism, ecumenism, and the world's religions.
