Expressing personal values through one’s life's work is a universal challenge. The sacrifice of personal integrity is the root cause of unethical conduct in business and government while much of the good that is collectively accomplished springs directly from individuals choosing to enact personal values within the workplace. Eva Kmiecic (BA '75), Senior Vice President, Strategic Management for United Way of Canada - Centraide Canada, draws on her experience in government and non-profit organizations in Canada and abroad to demonstrate how organizations and communities can and must be shaped by individuals and teams with strongly-held values.

Eva Kmiecic is a St. Jerome's graduate whose diverse career has been shaped by her desire to create humane, principled organizations. She has worked in Australia on settlement services for refugees and immigrants, established departments of Public Security, and Citizenship and Immigration for the Canadian government, directed policy tables promoting excellence in government for the Public Policy Forum, and served as a Deputy Commissioner in the R.C.M.P. Now as Vice-President of Canada's premier charitable organization, United Way of Canada, she applies those priorities to refocusing its philanthropic energy onto the prevention of deep societal problems through community building and social investment.
