Universal healthcare was created for the public good of all Canadians, embracing values of fairness, equality, and equity. This is why Roy Romanow chose to title his seminal report on the future of medicare Building on Values. Mr. Romanow will speak to the notion that what we owe each other as citizens is best illustrated by our public medicare and that the need to secure its future is essential to sustaining the very essence of our nation.
Roy Romanow
After serving as Premier of Saskatchewan from 1991 to 2001, Roy Romanow headed the Royal Commission on the Future of Health Care in Canada. The Commissions Report, Building on Values (2002), sought to guarantee the long-term sustainability of a universally accessible, high quality, publicly-administered health care system for all Canadians. The recipient of a number of honourary degrees, Mr. Romanow is a Senior Fellow at the University of Saskatchewan and the University of Regina, and Visiting Fellow at Queen's University.
