The winner of the Fr. Norm Choate Distinguished Graduate Award for 2001 is Joan Grundy (BA, Honours Religious Studies and English, 1984). Joan exemplifies the values of St. Jerome’s University in her work as the Religion Consultant for the Waterloo Catholic District School Board, in her church and volunteer commitments, and in her ongoing connection with St. Jerome’s. The speaker for the 2001-2002 Graduates’ Association Lecture is Dr. Peter Naus, whom Joan immediately identified as one of the professors who most influenced her at St. Jerome’s. Dr. Peter Naus, Associate Professor Emeritus, St. Jerome’s University
After receiving his PhD from the University of Nijmegen and teaching at the University of Notre Dame in Indiana, Dr. Peter Naus came to teach psychology at St. Jerome’s University in 1973. During his career, he brought a spirit of open inquiry to the students he taught, examining issues of sexuality, aging, and death in ways that challenged taboos and encouraged understanding. In this talk, he will reflect on sexuality and his teaching about sexuality for some 20 years.
